I admit that there are two bad people that I have defended. I won't give their names, but I don't defend them because I care about them. I defend them because they are from marginalized and distrusted groups that society demonizes... and of which I am part of. I don't trust the system to judge them as individuals, but as examples as to why we should not trust this group. So I'm not doing this for them, I'm doing this for the other people in the group. It's hurt me a lot. But that's how bad the system has become. It's forced me to protect good people, by protecting bad people. And it judges people by group and popularity.
