  2. Unfortunately politics and corruption pretty much ensure that any big train projects ends in failure. Take for example the high speed rail that will be connecting SF to LA (cutting travel from about 6 hours to 2 hours) went from costing $65 billion to $77 billion to $80 billion and now it seems they cannot find the money to fund it. At least the BART extension project will be completed this year despite the delay.
