  4. If this report is true that means China's navy are all hollowed out. This means expensive new toys but nobody experienced enough to command it. A navy is only effective if it has experienced military leaders otherwise those new expensive ships will be as good as very expensive target practice. It takes years or decades to train new commanders.

  21. It was a preventable death. This is partly a man made disaster. The local government failed to stop the subway from operating despite they know they are going to release the flood waters from 3 nearby dams that were in danger from collapsing. So the government released the dam waters + massive deluge (600 cm of rain) + allow the subway to continue to run until the waters were neck high. So now they are trying to shift the blame and cover their own butts.

  30. This only shows how weak and desperate Xi really is. It’s military ramp up is mostly for show. They know the world’s eyes are on China right now. If the CCP really attack Taiwan and the US got involved (together with the US military alliance) it is the end of the CCP. The US still have plenty of traditional allies (despite Trump’s rhetoric) while China has none to speak of. A high ranking retired Chinese general pretty much publicly says attacking Taiwan will not bring prosperity to China, it will only provoke the US (recently even both democrats and republicans have drawn the line at Taiwan especially after the national security law being imposed on HK). I agree with Premier Li Keqiang. Xi needs to prioritize taking care of the 600 million poor people in China instead of waging pointless war with Taiwan and India in order to preserve regime stability. The recent flooding really caused massive damage in China. Famine and food shortages will be next. The total damage is estimated at $20 billion dollars but the Xi government has only doled out less than $100M for repairs and reconstruction. The poor villagers in Anhui are pretty much left on their own after the CCP intentionally flooded the poor province in order to spare other more wealthy cities and provinces from damage.

How? Authoritarianism only allows such kind of malfeasance to fester until it got massive because nobody dares to point out corrupt officials and there are no independent oversight. Every CCP member has the potential for corruption as the temptation is simply too big especially in a top down system without any oversight and no checks and balances.
