It's actually best for the world for China to balkanize and break up into 6-8 countries.

@Loj32 A lot of them already do. Frankly breaking them up means they each can have their localized laws which will do a better job of fulfilling the needs of the local population than one size fits all laws and government. Plus aren't they always complaining about China being too big to rule?

@Loj32 the balkanization is happening not because of the US but rather inequality and ethnic stresses that is already happening inside China. Xi is only trying to rile up Chinese nationalism by creating an us vs them mentality but in reality things are already fracturing due to unequal development between the coastal cities and rural western provinces and also from the north and southern provinces. What is keeping the flimsy relationship was the promise of wealth to all by the CCP except only the coastal province got rich while the rural western provinces are still as poor as ever. Xi's "common prosperity" slogan is just a bandaid to tide things over and hoping that is enough to appease rural China but China's economy is slowing down. The global supply chain is moving away from China. This means Xi's rhetoric is empty. People are fed up, they gave up their freedoms for promise of prosperity but so far only the coastal cities got it while 60% of China are still as poor.
