@janejames35 In some ways it is. It can be quite subtle, so unless one lives in a culture for an extended period of time, it can be hard to pick up clues. Back in the 1990's I had a client from Nicaragua. After getting to know her for awhile she shared her family's story of emigrating to the USA. Her sister was a gay and she was being threatened with being killed for her sexual orientation. This is not unusual in many countries. Currently in Honduras, not only is abortion illegal but if a woman has one she can be put in prison.

Unfortunately, it is true about many other countries as well except in many other countries it's a bit more covert. The key is to surround yourself with like minded people and minimize contact with less affirming people.

@nhmooytis7058 If you've been following this channel for some time, generally smaller countries are better. While NZ is a smaller country, it has a very woke person running the country. Depending on your resources and how portable your income will determine where you can move to. There are many countries in Latin America and Eastern Europe you might want to consider. Everyone has their requirements on what matters.

@nhmooytis7058 Costa Rica has the rentista program. I think if one has around 25k in the bank, that qualifies. Nicaragua has a couple of programs, There is the investor visa which is around $30k, that can be in real estate or a business I believe. They also have a rentista program which is lower than Costa Rica. Ecuador has raised certain requirements but it is still a fairly low bar. There are digital nomad programs but those are not long term residency programs.

@nhmooytis7058 I think you might want to recheck the amount needed for the rentista program. There are online ways of making money that you might want to explore.
