There were so many right offs back then. My mom was an accountant back in that era and some of the things that people had as deductions were creative to say the least. Many celebrities in the 1950's-1970;s had race horses which were a huge tax shelter. Also, people would also have a work of "art" appraised at some outrageous amount, then donate it to a non profit and then be able to write off the value. When Reagan came in , many of these deductions disappeared.
