@spicychad55 Actually it's the opposite. It's a country that isn't a bitch to the EU and protects the rights of its citizens against outside interests.

If social security is half your retirement income, renouncing makes zero financial sense. You need to meet with a good financial planner, many of my clients pay nominal to no taxes at all. One needs to be fairly wealthy to make renouncing an option.

It's up to $112,000 per person now. If you are a working "stiff" and have the ability to work remotely, you can always work with your employer to pay you as a contract employee. So, basically you are a 1099 employee. You really won't need benefits, if you are living outside the country and will likely make more money from the company since they are not paying you benefits. If you are married or have a domestic partner, you can pay them a salary up to 112k, so now you have 224k that it not taxed. Of course, there are many other deductions that every self employed person has: place you operate your business, technology costs, utility costs etc. Of course, one has to pay social security tax.

@HoDLum You have to have deep ties to Panama, so its not the country that you only live in for a few months a year or even a few days a year to enable you to get citizenship. Your focus needs to be what value do you bring to Panama, not how will Panama benefit me. Panama has so many different residency programs and being a territorial based tax system, there is not a huge motivation on most foreign residents to get citizenship. With permanent residencies one only has to be in the country once every 2 years to maintain it, so its one of the lowest occupancy residencies around. Saying this I know 2 people who got their citizenship relatively easy, but both were deeply involved in the fabric of the local community.

@jurgnobs1308 That's one perspective. The current President of Hungary has overwhelming support of its population, they have been effective in keeping the EU out of its business. They aren't taken in migrants to replace their own population like many countries in the EU. Many Europeans are starting to wake up & this is why recent elections are showing many conservatives taking over in many European countries. Even relatively minor things like Italy moving away from the dictates of the EU in terms of the Miss Italy contestant. Italy determined that only biological females can now participate. The EU opposes this & we see this in the Miss Netherlands the winner is a man who thinks he is a woman. Further, Italy has pro-family politician- an attractive female- who opposes many of the dictates of the EU. When people use terms like "far right" it usually means policies that one doesn't agree with. Many of these policies were the foundation of the rights of individual nations. The EU as well as the UN want to erode (as well as the Democrat Party in the US) the values that made countries function well. If you viewed the interview between Republican candidate Vivek with Dana Bash with CNN, he didn't let up on that Democrat Party had actively been working on migrants "replacing" the general population. She finally relented when Vivek presented evidence to her & her response was that she wasn't goin to use the word "replace", but her response was "what's wrong with that?" So, you want the tax payers to fund a system that is going to lead to their elimination?

Exactly. I like this channel, but Andrew has such an unreasonable bias against the US. For people who are skilled and want to make money, its one of the best countries in the world. Now if one has an international business and makes 7 figure income, there are more tax friendly options. Recently I heard about a family that moved to Panama, thinking they could live much better than in the US. The husband was able to work remotely but lost his position, and the best position he could get in Panama was paying him $1200/month. His son, who was college aged, could only get work at $2/hour. He was offered a position back in the US for $150k a year as a long haul trucker plus he got a 20k sign on bonus. Obviously they moved back to the US.
