Well real estate prices in Austin have gone crazy. The increases are likely to cover their investment. One of the lenders I work with about a week ago told me that he had a client who sold his property in California and went and bought a home in Austin for $450,000. The lender asked the client if he realized what his tax base in Austin is. He was shocked to find out that taxes were over 3% of the sales price. Ouch! He cashed out of his home in California and is paying about what a 1.2 mil home would be taxed at in California. He's talking of selling already!

That's why it is important to own your own property, no matter how humble it is. When over 50% of the population doesn't own their own homes in one of the strongest economies that is a big problem.

About 20 years ago, I looked at buying property in Hawaii. While it is gorgeous, there is a very hostile vibe where you have locals who live on the Hospitality sector and Food Stamps and are bitter they can't afford to buy. The majority of land is owned by non locals, recipe for resentment and big taxes if you sell and don't reinvest in the state.

@j0b0 Or move to a location, where you can own. People aren't trees, they won't die, if they pull their roots up and move somewhere else. That's kind of the point to this channel to begin with.
