@alblez Most people don't talk about it but Colombia does have the right to tax it's citizens on their world wide income. They are not organized to do it, but its coming. I'm not sure what their position is on permanent residents that might be a better option.

One of the great aspects of being an Argentinian is having the ability to see through much of the madness in the world and being able to negotiate.

I don't think Trump was referring to Mexico as that type of country.

Depends on your income, it goes up to over 60 percent in denmark for top earners.

CR is not as good of an option as Panama. There are many reasons including violence but it is not as business friendly as Panama. Also, the rules for permanent residency is less clear and can take close to 2 years to complete. Once you do have a residency, you will have to pay 10% of your income into their health care system, that most expats refuse to use since it is over crowded and private options are not that expensive. Further the IMF gave tons of money to CR, now they are pushing elec cars on the population. Taxes are so high here on cars that the average person has to pay a significant amount compared to Panama to buy a car. Panama is a much simpler country to move to. If you are not retirement age and you are from one of the many countries on the Friendly Nations program, it is a simple program to qualify. Panama follows its rules and it will take about 4 months to get permanent residency. Using a private hospital is $5-10 a visit. I had some blood work done for a drivers license and it was $5.00 for blood work. Private hospitals are more expensive and cost $40 to see a doctor. My dog was sick, vet made a home visit, $25. No country is perfect but I like Panama.

@alblez That's interesting. I hadn't heard anyone having to pay taxes as of yet, but I figured it was coming. I bow to your superior knowledge, I'm not a resident of Colombia.

The Merchant Marine has been registered in Panama for at least 100 years. I had family that went into the Merchant Marine during ww2 and it was registered in Panama back then. It got him out of a lot of hot water when he was torpedoed by the Germans, he was released because it was considered a world wide force, not a citizen of any particular country. For a job, it had amazing retirement benefits.
