Its good that you visit, Panama has been closing non active bank accounts. A few years ago it was easier to get a bank account, but now you need to be a Permanent Resident or going through the process.

Panama is easy to navigate and providing that you don't sell to others in Panama, you are fine. I wouldn't delay in getting a Friendly Nations Residency, it may not be around forever.

Depending on which country you are from will determine what is open to you. There are many countries that offer residency not citizenship for limited resources. Check out Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador and Panama depending what country you are from. Panama does offers forestry visas also if you aren't not from a country listed in their Friendly Nations Program.

@anonymous-zp9ze I would think Nicaragua would be less expensive. Once you get away from the tourist areas of San Juan del Sur, prices are a lot less expensive. It would be good to travel and visit both countries to see what you like best. You might want to explore Honduras and other countries too to gauge your tolerance, there are great people every where.

@dougscott188 Some people in the past were able to open a bank account with just a tourist visa, so they would have an account when they visited. Many were shocked when their accounts were closed last year,. However, if it used periodically then it remained open.
