Aren't people responsible for their own life? Plenty of people on social security benefits live well in Ecuador and Mexico for retirement. What about someone learning some skills that they could use online, there is training through online portals like Linkedin Learning and the like, where they go work online. People are teaching English remotely for $20/hr and work part time and live well in certain countries. There are options and I'm showcasing activities that don't require a high level on business acumen that can easily be learned.

@John-wf5if You sound like someone who doesn't pay any taxes at all. The problem is that 50% of US residents don't pay any taxes at all.

Some of these comments are really disappointing , the serf mentality is repugnant to my sensibility as someone who is in control of my destiny. Why does anyone think someone else is responsible for their own success? If you get a loan from the government to go to college, study a field that you can make a living at. Plenty of fields where one can make a good living, pay off your debt, and move on. It's really that simple. I chose a liberal art career, paid for it myself, and then had to figure out another career path, paid taxes for the past 20+ years. The poor me mentality of many people here is really not attractive.
