  3. Someone that is self employed and let's say has a book keeping business and makes 65k a year. By the time, they write off their home office ( rental or if they own a home), supplies, phone, internet, technology. They likely will have a net income of around $12k a year. If they live in my state will have free medical and dental. They will pay just a tiny amount for social security, not much.

  4. People who love flat tax don't realize how it would impact self employed people, there are so many costs in running one's business.

  5.  @bigdave5946  Good, I'm glad that you run your own business, so you understand what expenses are to run said business. And that you income is your net income not gross receipts. When you use terms like "loop holes", the general public understands that to be deductions that are allowable for your business. The proponents of the Flat Tax have held that there are no deductions to be allowed at all. This would be catastrophic for small businesses that have been the foundation of the USA economy. So, if the gross receipts of a business are $750,000 and your net income is $50,000. Do you think it is fair or equitable that the business owner should pay on the $750,000 figure versus the amount he/she receives? Terms like Fairness are inherently flawed- fair to whom or what. This is the point of this video, Andrew's position is that the rich are paying their fair share and that others are not participating at all. Other viewers here have a position that even if someone pays no or minimal taxes, they are still participating in society. They pay sales tax, gas tax, DMV fees which are a tax, tax on their cell phones, tax on their travel options etc.

  6.  @bigdave5946  Of course it is flawed, that's why I say Fairness depends on one's perspective. I've been a sole proprietor for 30 years, so it is essential to have good representation which is an expense to be sure. One of the limitations of this channel is not to understand that not everyone has the kind of business where they can go off shore even if the wanted to. If one lives in Boise, Idaho and is a chiropractor and has 3 separate offices, he/she is doing well but this not something that can be easily off shored. Of course, someone could sell those businesses and start a different career but depending on one's age and inclination it is a learning curve to be sure. I had a client who sold one of her properties, is building an awesome home in Costa Rica and is living her best life but not everyone is ready to kick back.
