funny, or is it sad?, how things never really change. john snow discovers a scientific reason why the water supply was threat to public health and... THE ELITE DID NOTHING! much like police-state, climate change and pandemic science is ignored to placate the greed, apathy and corruption of the ruling class. the oligarchs embrace "science" ONLY when it furthers their political agenda and makes them RICHER! otherwise, science is to be ignored or even DEMONIZED at all times and at all costs.
other examples of how things stay the same - the myth of "upward mobility." this has never been real. like the 40 hour work week this is no more than a marketing strategy to create the myth that we're better off than in the past. the reality is - TODAY, if you're born rich or poor, the odds are you're gonna die in the same social class in which you're born. don't believe the elitist lies that tell you different.
lastly, in the u. s., at least, our mortality rate is INCREASING while our life expectancy is DECREASING! this has been the trend since the reagan era policies took over the economic and political direction of OUR country.
yep, its true, FOR SURE, the more things change the more they stay the same. and people just continue to believe the lies rather than accept the observable and verifiable truths that surround them everyday. go figure.

@KlausJepps ... right on. i hear this all the time from people in scandidavian countries and northern europe. american fascists trash your countries as being inflicted by "dreaded,, "demonic" socialism. in the u. s., the fascists HATE govt interference UNLESS it protects the accumilation of wealth of the top 15%! they hate govt when it helps people but love the govt when it enforces THE FASCIST, ELITIST will. its called gangsterism. NOTHING GETS DONE unless it increases the wealth of our ruling gangsters,
question - do the danes, such as yourself, consider your system "socialist?" i don't. since your system continues to support a monarchy, it can't be considered socialism in any way. but it IS "socialistic." meaning it contains elements of socialist intent without being truly socialist. one thing these system demonstrate is that POVERTY can be GREATLY reduced while the elite remain RICH and in power.
in other words poverty ISN'T a natural conclusion of capitalism but a CHOSEN result of the elite in power.
personally, i don't favor this either, capitalism is GANGSTERISM. but a gangster system that's "socialistic" is better than one that's totally laissez-faire, corrupt and apathetic towards the needs of the general population.

@audreyr.johnson8965 ... interesting. i never heard that before. i had my first surgery at 6 months old in 1958. of course, i remember nothing about it. had several surgeries throughout the 60's and 70's. no one ever told me, as a 6 month old i didn't recieve anesthesia. i never even thought to ask. it never occurred to me such a thing might've even been contemplated, much less done.
so, i'm not saying i out and out believe you. but you've given me something to think about and research. thanks for that info.
odd, and sad, as a child i recieved the best medical attention anyone could hope for. as adult i'm denied medical attention on a regular basis and have been abused by the medical industry for decades.
morons keep praising all the medical innovations over the last few decades. but what good are all these advancements if they aren't available to those who need them?
nope, at best, they now push DRUGS, dangerous and addictive drugs as a cure all for EVERYTHING! i'm not even offered these drugs! the medical industry, led by corporate america and the AMA, is a gangster organiztion that puts profit and power over medical ethics. ISN'T CAPITALISM GREAT?
