from what i can tell, from kipling's defintion, there's very few "men" around today. being a "grown-up" used to mean leaving childish ways behind. but the world's been taken over by the most immature, childish, gullible, irresponsible, petty and delusional "adults" human history has ever recorded. many of our contemporary problems can be attributed to the fact that most people NEVER grow-up anymore. i had a book of short stories that included kipling's immortal "the man who would be king." i'd already seen the 70's huston directed film startring michael caine and sean connery and love it. so, the short story was quite a treat. to me, the story is about the dangers of imperialism. i'm surprised to hear he was a supporter of european imperialism. i recemmend to those who don't like to read to read short stories. they contain many different themes and are a much easier read.

jimmy stewart, the american actor, seems to have a couple of connections to this story. in the 1939 film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington stewart plays the lead character named Jefferson Smith. and in the 1954 film The Far Country stewart's in the alaskan town of Skagway battling a corupt judge who owns the town and its retail stores, bars and gambling houses. of course the earliest conmen, or confidence men, were the early priests who performed slight of hand and other tricks to convince the local people they had supernatural powers. even religions today perform these scams sometimes right on tv! faith healings and so-called psychic surgeries are widespread cons conducted by these false pastors and self proclaimed emissaries of god. these scams bring in millions of dollars of stolen revenue. even the common victims of this fraud often keep going back for more. people are morons. they'll believe any lie they're told. trump is proof of that. the anti-vaxers and anti-maskers are falling for the SAME scams and they're threatening the public health and saftey of the ENTIRE country. capitalism is based upon fraud to function. and if politicians didn't commit fraud they'd never get elected. so our entire religious, political and economic institutions THRIVE on fraud. and its been like this for OVER 6000 years.

without the invention of the bed humanity would've gone extinct. because where else would we have sex? under a tree? in the shower? out in the fields like animals? odd, i've had sex in all those places. actually the bed is the most boring place to have sex. never mind.

i was an elevator operator of a "manual" elevator in a 3 story building in kcmo in the 80s. it was just for a few weeks and i can't even remember the name of the building but it was an auditorium where kc's orchestra season took place. i almost forgot about that. it was fun trying to stop the elevator exactly even with the floor. i guess i did a good job because everyone seemed to have fun on the ride. never recieved any complaints and i made jokes the entire time. i've had a lot of unique and interesting jobs. a lot of boring and tedious ones too. thanks for the interesting video.

top hats and stove-pipe hats are 2 different styles of hat. those stove-pipe hats are TALL! and the traditional top hat is much shorter. the stove-pipe hat is a variation of the top hat. personally, i think the stove-pipe hat is rather silly looking. but it was perfect for lincoln. an excellent trade mark. you'll notice the hat hitler had in hand in the photo was much shorter than lincoln's hat. i used to wear a tradional top hat. you could buy them at theme parks. i have several pictures of me wearing that hat. but i wouldn't be caught dead in a stove-pipe hat. but it was the stove-pipe hat that became popluar among the rich and powerful of the 19th century. probably due to lincoln's influence. as for the marx bros, harpo wore a traditional top hat and groucho wore tails. i wore tails to my wedding. damned classy. but everyone said i reminded them of groucho. there's no accounting for taste i suppose. thanks for the video.

its quite possible to have a totally original idea although there may have been others in the past with a similar idea. sometimes people just think of things without any outside influence whatsoever. a man, who continues to live in the wilderness among wild animals is a concept that, i'm sure, has been around since the rise of civilzation. you're right. it is a romanticized vision of freedom. there's a 1970 kinks song called "apeman" that perfectly reflects that romatic sentiment. with the classic lines - "i don't feel safe in this world no more I don't want to die in a nuclear war I want to sail away to a distant shore And make like an apeman." the song describes my thoughts very well. its one of my favorite songs.
