I remember the hippies very well because I AM A HIPPIE. there's no such thing as an "ex-hippie." if you call yourself that you were never a hippie to begin with. I am a 1970's 2nd generation hippie. its always a riot to see mainstream media try to explain us. 1st; ALL HIPPIES are politically and socially minded and aware. not all anti-war activists are hippies but all hippies are anti-war! not all hippies do drugs. here's hippieism in a nutshell; empathetic, peace-loving nature-respecting, non-conforming, non-following, cooperative-minded, anti-materialistic, non-occultist, non-body-mutilating, pro-equality and anti-predatory. hippies didn't disappear at the end of the 60's. there's hippies being born every day. unfortunately many of the "contemporary" hippies have been mislead by many predators into believing body-mutilation and "punkism" are acceptable; they aren't. hippies love ourselves and would NEVER be convinced of anything as self-hating as purposely scarring our bodies. otherwise, they're on the right track. thanks for the video.

@spacecowboy2935 ... i think the problem began when parents decided to hand over the up-bringing of their kids to schools and corporations. the parents didn't teach their kids to question authority but to conform to corporate created social trends and peer preasure. for some odd reason the word "no" became a dirty word and parents thought it was much easier to just let kids decide too much for themselves without parental guidance, wisdom or life experience. we don't expect our kids to grow up, mature and take responibility for their own actions. direct corporate marketing to kids and schools have alleviated parent's social responibility of raising their own kids. at least that's part of the problem. corporations have taken over EVERYTHING and the "adults-in-room" let them do it.

hippies and yuppies are 2 different things. yuppies were sell outs who were trend followers and not truly dedicated to being hippies. just like many drug pushers and rapists who posed as hippies for predatory self interest. these were the yuppies. we real hippies stayed totally dedicated to our goal of a better world. the posers just moved on to the next trend, Reagan capitalism, which we are still feeling the corrupt consequences of now. also, the feds imprisoned and persecuted many hippie "leaders" en masse through the 70's. furthermore, the feds infiltrated the hippie movement and corrupted and destroyed it from within. a tactic still utilized by our fascist elite today; divide and conquer! use misinformation and lies to destroy any attempts to end the fascist stranglehold the elite has over all of humanity. but hippieism didn't die! you can't kill the ideas of peace, love, freedom, equality and justice.

@564df6g5h4d6f5g4h6d5 ... i was among the first to benefit from the end of the draft. but they wouldn't have took me anyway. i have medical problems that would've exempted me from the draft. i would've made a horrible soldier. i don't respond well to orders or authority bossing me around yelling at me.

I don't know; i'm kinda old (I guess) but the police state scares the hell outta me! I fight it at every opportunity! and I've been fighting it since I was 15. I founded the philosophy of equalism as an alternative of the police state that's being forced upon us by elite on the left and right!

@thaismatsumoto ... i really appreciate that. nothing dissappoints me more than all the sellouts who abandoned the cause and rejoined the very system they claimed to despise. i had friends like that too. two friends joined the army out of highschool (the army? for heavens sake) and a few who became "reaganites" in the 80s. i've maintained my principles over the decades and paid a heavy price. but i'd rather suffer with integrity and honor than live in opulence through dishonesty and corruption. i only hope that in an alternate universe we were able to achieve a better more just and sane world that what we have here.

@marcibolton5718 ... nothing good can be achieved without empathy, good faith and love. but compassion and mere good intentions doesn't cut it. the goal and the means must be ethical, truthful and be firmly grounded on reality. love isn't the goal, its the means to a goal. i hope that answers your question.

and just for the hell of it i'm gonna say that Creedence Clearwater Revival is probably the most underrated and underappreciated rock band from the 60's. side 2 of Bayou Country (beginning w/ Good Golly Miss Molly [a cover no less]) still leaves me astounded and awed. its just wonderful! oh, I think i'll listen to it right now! but there's also the Chocolate Watchband! oh well, I better stop now. my past is catching up with me! +disco... one of my Hendrix faves is "rainy day, dream away" and all of side 3 of electric lady ladyland. (can't find it on YT though.) it has a VERY "Moonchild" feel to it. but i'm always partial to studio versions than live recordings of any song. (the stones' version of Midnight Rambler on 1970's "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" may be the only exception.) and in most cases give me the original artist to any cover. I feel the same about song covers as I do about movie remakes. if the song is good enough to be covered - maybe you shouldn't cover it in the first place! and in virtually all cases I despise sampling! its just blatant theft!

@@Red_69_ ... i've been practicing free love for decades. if i keep practicing everyday, maybe one day i'll get it right. people misunderstand what being a hippie really is. its nothing more than being a nonconformist. there's no rule book on how to live. its an attitude, a belief system and a world-view. not a life-style per se. George Bernard Shaw said it real well when he wrote: “There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?” for instance, we consider poverty a frame of mind and its existance a blight on human history. the poor can live rich in spirit while the rich live in a poverty of ethics and greed. we'd rather live in poverty than make a living at the expense of others. we embrace the simple things and reject the social habit of ridiculous complication and convolusion. we reject force and embrace persuassion. we live by example not by hypocrisy. simply put we hippies reject humanity's propensity of rationalizing human created human misery. we reject fraud, violence and predation. our goal is to make a better world for everyone, not just other hippies.

LCMary62... hello, I love you; won't you tell me your name! most live versions are GREAT when you're at the concert. but here's 2 live albums that kick ASS! the Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore East (You Don't Love Me) and Yes' YESSONGS (Yours Is No Disgrace)! they aren't better than the studio versions but are different and equally as good. concerning covers; I completely forgot about the byrds. but i'll tell you what; chuck berry covers are the best covers. they don't exceed chuck's originals but most of the ones I've heard are GREAT! Johnny Rivers' Memphis, Dave Edmonds' Promised Land, G. Thorogood's No Particular Place To GO and the Beatles' and ELO's Roll Over Beethoven are just 5 examples. but remember the Let It Be rooftop sessions - the beatles did released one live concert. me lova da Beatles too! the white album is still the best R&R album ever! it'll never be equaled in my opinion! I just love talking to TRUE music lovers!

@jsparks1449 ... the problem isn't left or right. the problem is using the education system to indoctrinate rather than inform. one side wants to ignore the history of "rightest" racism while the other side wants to use it to promote "leftist" transism. both sides are promoting tolerance for themselves while demonizing tolerance of others. i saw a graphic the other day of how the "35 year old and younger" demographic has grown more acceptable to the absudities of transim over the last 20 years. is it any wonder? that corresponds with when the gays were allowed to start preaching their political agenda in schools. exposing the very young to ridiculous ideas has a great impact on their world view throughout their lives. the left and right seem to have replaced basic education with political indoctrination. furthermore, you can teach tolerance without focusing on any given group and without denying reality and rejecting science and women's rights.

@sierrab5010 ... and that's my point. long hair and smoking dope was wide spread and that's how many defined a "hippie." hippie culture was inindated with posers, wannabes, liars, opportunists and predators. i knew a lot of people in the 70s who had long hair and got high who were outright racists, pro-capitalists, anti-union, anti-women's rights, pro-elite and claimed the poor was just lazy bumbs who deserved their poverty. to me it made no sense. i think "family guy" made a comment about it - they kept the pot but abandoned the ethics. many people who infiltrated hippie culture were simply following a popular trend and joining the crowd. as soon as 70s punk, disco, 80s heavy metal and 90s gangster-rap culture sprang up they eagerly jumped the hippie ship and joined those fascist cultures. that's why i say anyone who claims to be an ex-hippie were never TRUE hippies to begin with. they had no intention of embracing the real hippie philosophy in the first place.
