there's no such thing as an ex-hippie. if you call yourself an ex-hippie your were never a true hippie to begin with. i became a hippie when i was about 14 and i'm 65 today and i'm still a hippie. why would anyone betray such a beautiful, loving, empathetic lifestyle and join the world of thugs, liars and predators? it has nothing to do with the way you look or drugs. its about rejection of the social attitudes that sent humanity on a gangster, murder, hate spree over the last 6000 years. we hippies were one of the first groups in human history to recognized the horrific REALITY of the society in which they lived. we thought it was time to expose, admit to and denounce the profiteering, the theft, the wars, the poverty and the injustice that had dominated human history and dominates humanity even to do this day. just think. if we hippies had been listened to we wouldn't be facing all the utter INSANITY we're facing today. over the last 40-50 years humanity has gone to the gutter. we embrace our own slavery to technology and the corporate police-state. we now, on both sides, reject nature, science, observable reality and womens rights. we now, on both sides, promote BS so extreme, fanatical and absurd as to PROVOKE extreme, fanatical and absurd reactions from the other side. humanity is a species of fools ruled by gangsters and things AIN'T getting any better.

@spacecowboy2935 ... i think the problem began when parents decided to hand over the up-bringing of their kids to schools and corporations. the parents didn't teach their kids to question authority but to conform to corporate created social trends and peer preasure. for some odd reason the word "no" became a dirty word and parents thought it was much easier to just let kids decide too much for themselves without parental guidance, wisdom or life experience. we don't expect our kids to grow up, mature and take responibility for their own actions. direct corporate marketing to kids and schools have alleviated parent's social responibility of raising their own kids. at least that's part of the problem. corporations have taken over EVERYTHING and the "adults-in-room" let them do it.

@564df6g5h4d6f5g4h6d5 ... i was among the first to benefit from the end of the draft. but they wouldn't have took me anyway. i have medical problems that would've exempted me from the draft. i would've made a horrible soldier. i don't respond well to orders or authority bossing me around yelling at me.

@thaismatsumoto ... i really appreciate that. nothing dissappoints me more than all the sellouts who abandoned the cause and rejoined the very system they claimed to despise. i had friends like that too. two friends joined the army out of highschool (the army? for heavens sake) and a few who became "reaganites" in the 80s. i've maintained my principles over the decades and paid a heavy price. but i'd rather suffer with integrity and honor than live in opulence through dishonesty and corruption. i only hope that in an alternate universe we were able to achieve a better more just and sane world that what we have here.

@marcibolton5718 ... nothing good can be achieved without empathy, good faith and love. but compassion and mere good intentions doesn't cut it. the goal and the means must be ethical, truthful and be firmly grounded on reality. love isn't the goal, its the means to a goal. i hope that answers your question.

@@Red_69_ ... i've been practicing free love for decades. if i keep practicing everyday, maybe one day i'll get it right. people misunderstand what being a hippie really is. its nothing more than being a nonconformist. there's no rule book on how to live. its an attitude, a belief system and a world-view. not a life-style per se. George Bernard Shaw said it real well when he wrote: “There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?” for instance, we consider poverty a frame of mind and its existance a blight on human history. the poor can live rich in spirit while the rich live in a poverty of ethics and greed. we'd rather live in poverty than make a living at the expense of others. we embrace the simple things and reject the social habit of ridiculous complication and convolusion. we reject force and embrace persuassion. we live by example not by hypocrisy. simply put we hippies reject humanity's propensity of rationalizing human created human misery. we reject fraud, violence and predation. our goal is to make a better world for everyone, not just other hippies.

EVERY comment i post exposes the insanity that now permeates the right and left. and no one cares. everyone sees the fascism of others but are completely BLIND to their own fascism. humanity has chosen to leave sanity and reality behind in favor of delusion, wishful thinking and utter nonsense. they all pray to ONE GOD! the god of corporate technology that enslaves them. its completely unfathomable just how sick and twisted society has become.

@Cheerfultoday ... true, because hippie culture was so open and trusting it probably attracted more posers, predators and opportunists than any anti-establishment lifestyle in history. even local undercover cops and fbi agents infiltrated the culture to spread discontent, delusion and disunion. the ruling elite fascists FEARED this counter-culture peace and brotherly-love community. and they did everything in their power to destroy or corrupt it. and, sadly, they succeeded. just think how much better the world would be right now if the hippies were allowed to flourish and grow. there'd be no poverty, no slavery to corporations and humanity would no longer be ruled by gangsters.

@lavindagertgenisser2060 ... i appreciate the sentiment my friend but i feel no "progressive" vibe at all. we've just been going backwards the last 40 years. both the right and left have embraced fascist positions and lies completely absurd and dangerous. being a hippie was never about lying to people. it was JUST THE OPPOSITE! we hippies embraced reality we didn't demonize it. you can't make a better world by denying reality. both sides demand all humanity accept their lies as fact. they demand we abandon reality to make people feel better! THAT'S WHAT FASCISTS DO! they placate the delusions of fanatics, extremists and the mentally ill to make them happy. stalinists did this, the nazis did it, joseph mcarthy did it, nixon and reagan did it and now maga and the gay-lobby are doing it. maga and the gay-lobby are just alike. both intolerant, hateful and normalizing delusion. i fear the fascists on left and right. i don't want to be RULED by either side. @sierrab5010 ... and that's my point. long hair and smoking dope was wide spread and that's how many defined a "hippie." hippie culture was inindated with posers, wannabes, liars, opportunists and predators. i knew a lot of people in the 70s who had long hair and got high who were outright racists, pro-capitalists, anti-union, anti-women's rights, pro-elite and claimed the poor was just lazy bumbs who deserved their poverty. to me it made no sense. i think "family guy" made a comment about it - they kept the pot but abandoned the ethics. many people who infiltrated hippie culture were simply following a popular trend and joining the crowd. as soon as 70s punk, disco, 80s heavy metal and 90s gangster-rap culture sprang up they eagerly jumped the hippie ship and joined those fascist cultures. that's why i say anyone who claims to be an ex-hippie were never TRUE hippies to begin with. they had no intention of embracing the real hippie philosophy in the first place.
