this has been one of my points for years - the GOP leadership could have expelled and banned trump from their party from the VERY BEGINNING! the fact they didn't accounts for things: 1) at first they didn't believe trump would win the nomination. 2) after trump started getting good poll numbers they didn't care if a madman like trump took over their party. gaining power was all the party cared about. if they had expelled him, like ANY responsible u. s. political party would've done once hearing trump's blatantly fascist and dangerous rhetoric, we wouldn't be going through all this trump initiated insanity we're facing now.
