does anyone know the true history of the right's anti-abortion stance? throughout the 50s, 60s and much of the 70s the GOP supported abortion rights. (and gun restrictions for that matter.) it was only after watergate that the right took up anti-abortion positions. it was adopted by religious extremists calling themselves the "moral majority" that decided to adopt this stance although the jesus never mentioned abortion anywhere. after roe v wade was passed they wanted to create a single issue to unite the religious right against the evil, demonic left. it was ALL MARKETING - A CON! and within a decade the religious fanatics took over the GOP.

@valeriebreathet741 ... access to abortuion was the main problem here in the u. s. too? states chipped away at abortion rights by limiting access for decades. i mean, what good is legalizing something if you're denied access to it anyway? and for any number of reasons? it could be cost, geography or almost anything. i already looked at mexico as a affordable alternative to live. but that didn't pan out. mainly the language barrier. you neighbors to the north just may be getting another american ex-patriot sometime soon. i don't know, maybe new zealand would be my best escape!
