judges and their staff, all the lawyers and their staffs and the court police - all recieve good financial compensation for their roles in legal proceededings. WHY NOT THE JURY?! the jury is the most important part of any legal proceeding and their compensation is a CRIME! it shouldn't be a financial hardship for anyone to be on a jury! jurors don't even get minimum wage! THAT'S ILLEGAL! the state is hiring them, often through force, to participate. they at least deserve some level of human dignity and social gratitude for their service. and the only way society can show that gratitude is by paying them like everyone else in court is paid!

@maxtravers1314 ... all govt functions are paid for through taxes. cops, judges, prosecutors, bailiffs, the entire legal system is paid for through taxes. if all these people get respectable pay for their contributions to the system why not jurors? you'd have a lot fewer people trying to get out of jury duty and the system would run faster and more efficiently. taxes don't need to be raised to achieve this but if that's what is done - do it!

@pavelow235 .... they won't be "professional" jurors. they won't be allowed to make a living being a juror. they'll just be paid jurors. jury duty shouldn't be a financial hardshup for anyone! btw ... where's my thumbs up?

@rn2787 ... like i said in my comment - "it shouldn't be a financial hardship for anyone to be on a jury!"

@josephhodges9819 ... point taken. you could say the evidence is the most important part. but jury trials, and the right to have one, being judged by our community, our neighbors is the cornerstone of our justice system. and its usually up to the accused whether to have a jury trial or not, not the state. now, if we could only get cops, prosecutors and politicians to enforce the law we'd be on the right track.

@Jimmy-ik2kc ... actually some judges are appointed and some are elected. and, nationwide, prosecutors have roughly a 98% conviction rate. they get this "success" rate through denying the accused bail and holding them until they agree to plea to lesser charges. the accused accept plea bargains just to get out of jail! plea bargains are offered not to save the state money, since, these days, the convicted pay court costs, but to ensure convictions. and i'm not suggesting jurors recieve the same pay as prosecutors or judges. but they deseerve more than poverty level wages for their contributions to the legal process. they are an ESSENTIAL part of the justice system and need to be recognized as such.
