  1. i think you're thinking of judge roy bean who was a cruel, self appointed judge not a sheriff. but saloon entertainers and even vaudvillians had nefarious reputations. acting or entertaining, as a profession, was looked down upon for centuries. even during shakespear's time the acting profession was considered immoral. it wasn't a very lucrative or rewarding life until the 20th century and the advent of moving pictures and the creation of the "star" system. and even today, hollywood has a less than stellar reputation in some circles as being rampant with of immorality and corruption. and the life of prostitutes hasn't improved much. its still a highly dangerous profession riddled with disease and abuse. they're more likely to be sex slaves rather than mere "sex workers" as they're often depicted today. their lives are more likely controlled by vicious male pimps, who take all their money for themselves, than female madams. thanks for the video.
