  1. there's an old saying - the victors write the history. is this the first time the victors allowed the losers to write their own history? my take on this insanity is post civil war America suffered from southern morons who refused to admit defeat and spiteful refusal to admit blacks were human and from northern guilt of defeating the south. and this entire country, and indeed the world, still suffers from a fascist belief system that there is a superior race and a superior gender. why is learning from history and accepting reality so difficult for so many?

  2. yep, after reconstruction and the carpet-bagger era the northern troops left the south and so did any northern influence. i mean, weren't the northerners smart enough to understand that a culture based on generations of racial superiority and hatred might actually need a little re-education? that's what I mean by northern guilt. I believe many northerners felt guilty about winning the war so they just let antebellum sentiment retake southern culture. but of course the north had its own racial biases to over come. and TOO many Americans, today, have yet to over come their prejudices. so sad.

  3. wow, thanks guys for leaving me out of the conversation. the reality is it was northern guilt and the North's own desire to perpetuate its own racism that allowed the south to continue theirs.

  4. over simplification or not - it was still a factor as to why antebellum sentiment was allowed to flourish in the south after their defeat in the civil war. and thanks for including me. I feel a little better now.

  5. first you sat guilt was over simplification. now you say it NEVER existed. which is it? i'm not arguing with you at all! i'm just adding another true element to the discussion. the north removed its trips way too early and let southern animosity towards blacks flourish partly due to feelings of guilt. that's why for over a century, the north glamourized the antebellum south; calling it chivalrase, noble and so forth.
