interesting subject. but the solution is easy. you don't use a map to determine coast line length. you get in a boat, navigate around the coastline and measure the thing. you do this ten times to account for fluctuations in tides, erosion and other flaws. and then determine coastline length by the average of the ten measures. it won't be perfect but the coastline isn't perfect. the reality is, its impossible to get an exact, fixed measurement because the coastline, itself, isn't exact or fixed. so there. lastly, why the hell was the CIA appointed with the task of measuring our coastline? of all the american "institutions" that was listed in this video of measuring the coastline i'd say the CIA is the least dependable and the biggest waste of tax payer dollars. those people are nutz!
