the image of caligula that keeps being shown is actually of Malcolm McDowell, of "clockwork orange" fame, who starred as the title character in bob guccione's infamously produced 6 million dollar porn film "caligula." the movie contained several highly ranked, well known actors, including McDowell, John Gielgud and Peter O'Toole, none of whom appeared in any of the porn segments of the film. and, no, i've never seen the film. its said to be pretty gross.

@Puzzoozoo ... they were basicaly defrauded into their roles. i'd be angry about that too. i've seen other tinto brass films, softcore (i don't think he's made another hardcore film), that i liked. the production values and cinematography in his films are excellent. but i really dislike films, any films, that are designed to shock and intended to gross out the viewer. there's a huge difference between "realism" and deliberate "bad taste." when bad taste becomes popular you know your culture is in decline. which is why i hate slasher films and torture porn. these aren't horror movies but blood splattered gross-out films. screw that. america's culture is definately in decline.

@dudeonyoutube ... you're right. many of the actors reported they knew nothing of the pornographic intent of the film. and were shocked upon the film's release. McDowell said he was flatly lied to about it. the director, tinto brass, went on to make numerous big budget italian softcore porn films. some of which are actually pretty good. "caligula" was his first film and, too my knowledge, his only hardcore movie.
