deflection is a childish, schoolyard tactic and its the go-to strategy used by trump throughout the last 5 years. and now even trump's lawyers have lowered themselves to using this infantile tactic. there's 2 types of deflection: one type is simply changing the subject and redirecting the narrative. example - whenever trump is confronted with questions about his crimes he simply deflects the question on biden or Obama or attacks the circumstances that exposed the crimes, the "process" used to investigate the crimes or the witnesses, to his crimes, personally. trump NEVER addresses the crimes directly EXCEPT to contradict the evidence that's already been presented. the second type of deflection is to accuse your accusers of what you're guilty of. example: whenever trump makes a racist comment he accuses his critics of being racist. regarding the impeachment - its the house of representatives who are abusing their power not him. it was the house investigators who obstructed justice not him. no matter what he's accused of he accusers his accusers of the same thing! the ONLY way deflection can be successful in ANY argument is when people choose it to be; when they don't want the truth to come out, justice be done, or the law enforced in first place. using deflection is VERY immature. its used by bullies all the time. and its trump's ONLY true skill. and ALL of trump's GOP defenders have used deflection in their defense of trump on a WIDE RANGE of issues in the course of the last 5 years. so, now trump's lawyers are taking legal advice from trump. they're ACTUALLY using this childish strategy in a LEGAL proceeding. and they don't care because they know they're playing to a senate GOP that doesn't care about truth, justice or the law.
