its called "passing the torch." you take your turn in the spotlight for awhile then pass the torch to a new generation. sadly our psuedo democratic system places more power in the hands of those who've held office longer. voters aren't often willing to end that privilege with their own candidates. 90-95% of all encumbants win re-election. this is usually due to increassed corporate camapign funding. so we need donation limits, term limits and age limits. or at least cognative testing of aged office holders. these seasoned politicians should be mentoring younger political hopefuls anyway. democracy isn't supposed to be about holding power for decades or until you die.
