  2. He's not elite level but consider that China didn't have a developed lifting industry until recently. He said he had to make his own weights and had zero professional trainers. Think about this: 50 years ago when there were insane lifters like Bill Kazmaier and Sigmarsson, the average Chinese person could barely get enough food to survive. Give China another fifty years and they will start competing at world level. About the gene pool, you are completely correct. The average Chinese is shorter than the average American but then you have people like Yao Ming who was one of the tallest basketball players, as well as being one of the most agile at that height.
