Of course he wishes to be 100%. But really, it's probably not worth it since even 95% of native Chinese speakers don't speak perfectly—every region has its accent. It's like how most Americans don't sound like radio hosts, anchormen, and other such people who have trained to be excellent speakers. What Xiaoma is wishing for is to sound like a broadcaster or an audiobook reader.

@capbanana3851 No, I mean literally Western Chinese people. Like Xinjiang, Tibet, Uyghers, etc.

@capbanana3851 And it's not just elderly people in Southern China who aren't fluent, it's almost everyone who is more than 30 years old. Also just because you learn it in school doesn't mean 99% fluency, fluency comes from speaking it daily with other people who speak it daily. I'm sure there are more and more fluent Cantonese people nowadays but it's a recent thing.

@capbanana3851 It depends on who. His chinese is better than most Southern Chinese people who grew up speaking Cantonese and only maybe learn Mandarin later in their lives. It is probably better than some of the Western Chinese too.
