@radeklukas It's Ukraine's commissars that beat peopple into submission to be sent into meat waves, though. Russia operates on volonteers. Also, Zelensky illegally prohibited elections, closed borders and disallowed any form of peacetalks, so no, Ukrainians are not free to decide anything under their dictator.

@holyknightthatpwns that's cool and shiet, but it's part of Ukrainian culture to be borderlands of Russia, even if they tried their best to erase it. Cossacks were all about semi-nomadic military force that stood the gound against different enemies of the Empire and getting privelege for it like being free from taxation and getting their share of loot (like they got during Napoleonic invasion). To be fair, they integrated well into many of Russian neigbours when they didn't like the offer they were getting, like the cossack ethnic minority that went over chinese border and became noble guards there. And, once again, they kept the name they were called. If you'd call your own nation as outer kingdom you'd have a particular mindset now, wouldn't you?

@denniskrenz2080 Lmao, they wanted what? Bogdan Khmelnitsky uprising against Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was due to him being cucked by the priveleged nobility of such. Cossacks were perfeclty fine as long as they were well respected. Also, they sorta had zero industry by default and couldn't produce anything except of their traditional agrarian goods. The territory was constantly depopulated by Muslim raids of pro-turkey slavers, duh. And it was settled several times by Russian peasants. Furthermore, you sorta ignore the fact that there is not single Ukraine, but lots of such, like Gray Ukraine in Russian Ural mountains where millions of Ukrainians live peacefully. The fact is - Russian Empire used them as borderlands and called them a borderland. They served the purpose of moving it's borders or just protecting such while the country of Russia grew around them. You could compare them with mercenary companies - they didn't need state of their own, just inflow of cash, participation in military campaigns to get somehot loot and not to be bothered by authorities. You'd probably need to read some books about cossacks, trully fascinating stuff, especially their tolerate-hate relatioship with Jew traders that provided them with everything that they lacked (long story short, when cossacks had money - they didn't haggle and overspent it, when they didn't have money - they just took what they wanted and beaten up traders if such complained. It was critical for Jews to understand when their clients had money or didn't and approach with their goods appropriatly)

@denniskrenz2080 Swiss ahd their well-defended mountains. Cossacks had steppes constantly attacked from any direction. It was safer for them to move constantly for survival, hence semi-nomadic nature and lack of interest in building a state. I was talking about specifically Ukrainian books about cossacks, my dude, don't project here your anti-Stalin bias that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

@denniskrenz2080 the only way to give justice to Father of nations is to admire his hard work and glorious achievements that brought peace and well being for millions of people both inside USSR and abroad, while dimsantling disgusting colonial system that the western nations built. Either way, when Russia didn't exist , i.e. before Rus - the region around kiev was ruled by Khasar Kaganate, of Turkoman ethnicity (of pagan majority, ruled by Jewish minority). If you wanna piss off Ukrainians - be my guest and remind them of that historical fact.
