  1. This is about NO SIGNS at all. That is where normal traffic rules apply. So coming from the right means you get priority with any form of transport except shoes. Even a toddler on a tricycle from the right has priority.

  4. Those big mattresses are made out of bundles of willow twigs, lowered on the sea bottom that consists of soft clay. They are fixed in place with stone blocks from Norway, the Netherlands do not have any stone except chalk in the very south, but that's not strong and heavy enough. When the soft soil on both sides is stabilized, works could begin. It is called Afsluitdijk (Closing off dyke), but it is a dam. It is 90 years old, and not leaky, but we have to prepare for the future and make it stronger. Also correct some mistakes... fish could not pass, but they get a special fish river now.

  5. Same in my country, though we are on the exact opposite side of the globe. While in the US we were looking for real bread, whole wheat brown bread, which is nowhere to be found. Everything is too salty, too sweet, too processed. Nothing truly fresh.

Now you can be free in all member states and all EEA countries, because they all will respect you as a citizen of the EU in equal rights. We have grown together far more than we seem to notice.

The last one seems to come from everywhere, while lower European pitch can be located. You hear a huge difference between only hearing (reflection) and hearing with visual (direct).

Major difference in Germany (and some other countries) is: consequent design, you know what to expect when there is a bend or an exit. You can (have to) leave with 80 mph and know the exit is safe for that speed. You go down slowly and do not meet a dangerous situation. Route indication is also systematic, you know long in advance which exit you have to take, in which lane you have to be, where to go, very unlike the US.

After the war all over Europe people demanded full emancipation, voting rights for all, and reforms in politics. And they achieved this. It wasn't enough to prevent WWII, but a lot changed in Europe between 1915 and 1925.

  13. The Orange fans gather at one point in the city, coordinated with the local authorities, and march together to the stadium. The double decker bus, with music and singers, in front, followed by the dancing crowd. It's such a big happening, nobody wants to miss it. A statement, but also prevents small groups swerving through town and messing with the opponent fan clubs. Orange is the color AND nickname for all national teams, football, field hockey, ice speed skating, Olympic team... If a sports(wo)man plays:in Orange, it means they play in the National Selection and represents the Netherlands.

  14. Yep, the EU is complicated. But in this video there was a lot of attention to the 'outer regions' of the member states. Which are special..., but represent only 1% in population. Their relation to the 'motherland' is already complex, and to the EU even more so. In general: these regions are locally self governing, but part of the motherland in regard to defense and foreign policies. Their citizens are EU citizens and enjoy all rights connected to it.

  16. We have the same in the Netherlands, area is even called 'Langstraat' (Long Street) and stretches for 30 km with here and there a little bit more village like build up. Houses are build according the narrow strips, while the road gently bends through, making it look like the houses go forward and backward...

  17. Yep! America is BIG. But few people commute from living in Miami and working in Chicago. Or living in San Francisco and do their shopping in New York. Most people in the US do not even leave their state daily, for anything.

  18. For the Netherlands: There have to be two doors between the garage and a room where people stay, so a little hallway in between. It's there to stop exhaustion gasses. Same goes for the 'bathroom', and for the front door, always a extra door between to keep the smells or cold air out. The radiators are part of the central heating system, they are filled with hot water that circulates and is heated up at one central point, usually the same thing that provides hot water, not a boiler. Hot water isn't stored, but heated up as cold tap water flows trough, to prevent still luke warm water that can cause veterans disease. What surprised me while visiting the US that in some cases the 'restroom' was directly attached to the restaurant. A single door between dining and pooping area... that was truly shocking!

  21. Because it has multiple frequencies it cannot be confused with a distant train, boat or truck horn, and it carries very far. The smartphone alert is identical to the US one, and scares the hell out of you during lunch break in the office restaurant on the first monday of the month at noon! Everyone jumps up!

  23. The smaller Volvo was developed by DAF before the car factory was sold to Volvo. The truck department continued as DAF. Most of these Volvo's had DAF Variomatic gearing, which made them extremely fast in taking off at traffic lights.

  27. When you go to bed, you turn off the heating, or even an hour before. In the morning you 'open' the bed and open the windows, so all moist can ventilate out of the house, beds and furniture. After an hour or two, close the windows and slowly start heating the house again. Breathing, cooking, transpiration, plants, flowers, animals, all brings a lot of moist into a house and condensation on the walls will cause molds in no time. Outside air is always dryer than used inside house air, even when it rains, all over Europe that is.

  28. Not Just Bikes is trustworthy in his videos, he does do good research, and I can hardly ever find anything which isn't accurate. I work for a municipality and know much effort, and money, is invested in good intelligent traffic lights. Most of them are coordinated from a central point and can be managed according circumstances, when more traffic is expected for a festival or big event that route gets more green to prevent jams. When there is no traffic, in the middle of the night, all lights are red, and the loop in the road activates green ahead of arrival, so the one who comes first can go on without stopping, whether pedestrian, bicycle or car. Waiting time is zero seconds. Because all intersections are connected, the next crossing 'knows' someone is approaching and they will get green just in time when they respect the local speed limit. So when the amount of traffic is low, there is no waiting time for anyone. It is a very strange mindset that intelligent, sensor activated, traffic lights are bad for cars, all road users benefit from this efficiency.

  30. Also number plate recognition! Used more and more, not only to check parking licenses, access permission, but also registration on highways for traject speed, tax, and surveillance. And plates were connected to the driver in Belgium, to the vehicle in the Netherlands, to the district in Germany and France. So there is not one system for the EU, let alone Europe.

  36. Which makes you a very potential victim. Italy, Spain, France and all other EU members had their food scandals. Big advantage, they were detected and became a scandal, in the US it is far more daily practice and common, not even prohibited. The Californian virgin olive oil had green color added to make it look more intense, and other kinds of oils were added because only 80% needs to be first press olive oil to be branded as pure virgin olive oil. The strange urge 'The greener the better!' has probably made the manufacturer do this. The cheaper blend of mediterranean oils, usually are not tempered with, it's a mass product with only marginal profit. Less green, but a natural product. Same goes for the cheap red/darkish olives, in neutral brine, not tempered with, while the black ones are ripened artificially or even colored, with dark brine. Not dangerous, but colored, and therefor not soft and sweet. Sad thing is: it's on the label. But few people know the difference between a legal conservative or pigment.

Fries cannot contain other ingredients than potatoes, oil/fat and little salt. Plastic wrapping, in any form, has to be billed clearly and reduced where possible. Paper straws for a milkshake are just an example.
