I was told by my secondary school teachers that I wasn't smart enough for sixth form, college, or university, yet after leaving school I continued in learning and achieved various qualifications at University level, scored 156 in a MENSA IQ test, can write perfect English, have worked in intellectually demanding jobs in IT and Psychology, and am retiring from work soon, very early. I've done very well for someone who was basically written off by schoolteachers in my teenage years.

  6. One thing that must be borne in mind is that state education fails a significant proportion of young people. It was bad when I was at school in the 1980s, but I'm certain it's much worse now. I was told by my secondary school teachers that I wasn't smart enough for sixth form, college, or university, yet after leaving school I continued in learning and achieved various qualifications at University level while holding down full-time jobs. I scored 156 in a MENSA IQ test, can write perfect English, have worked in intellectually demanding jobs in IT and Psychology, and am retiring from work soon, very early. I've done very well for someone who was basically written off by schoolteachers in my teenage years.
