  1. Maybe not a great example, the Wrights had a lot of help, and it's likely that they were not the first men to achieve powered flight at all. A chap in New Zealand, who was in correspondence with the Wright brothers, sharing his research with them, probably flew before they did but didn't publicise the fact.

  3. @MrJC1  There are witness statements taken years after the event, unfortunately the US was heavily promoting the Wright Brothers story. Look into it, it's easily found online.

  5. @Neil Duran  The man I'm talking about, Richard Pearse was sharing his research with them via letter. Eye witnesses stayed that they had seen him flying and landing a powered, heavier than air machine on the 31st March 1903, nine months before the Wright brothers flew.
