  6. There's a lot of evidence to support the theory that the Wright brothers were not the first to achieve powered flight. Apparently a chap in New Zealand, born of parents from Cornwall, likely flew a few months before the Wright brothers did and generously shared his research with them, but was not credited due to being somewhat a recluse. Late last century, some older New Zealand people were interviewed and stated that they witnessed early flights as children during a particular school holiday one year which enabled an approximate date to be established.
