  3. At my secondary school, forty years ago, I took the exam for (amongst others) the English Language O level. This involved answering questions on a passage of text about rock climbing, read out to us by an "English" teacher. The teacher we got to read the passage of text was an Indian man, who proceeded to mispronounce and misread various words, his attempt at pronounc8ng the word "crampon" was particularly risible for some reason. I passed with a fairly good grade but have often wondered if I or my classmates were disadvantaged in some way by this teacher's poor command of English. He simply should not have been in that position.
