  1. Most people don't start doing heroin because they think it sounds fun. But decriminalizing most drugs and providing public services like rehab, safe use centers etc can help people normalize different aspects of their life while making progress towards recovery. In our current system getting and staying clean, and not ending up in prison or dead is basically a miracle. Everything about our US system provides a feedback loop exacerbating basically any issues, drugs, mental illness, homelessness, etc. resulting in a downward spiral. We need those safety nets and a focus on rehabilitation and just basic humanity as most people don't chose to be addicted or imprisoned etc. one false move leads to the domino effect that ends with you being dead or ending up as a slave for some corporate prison trying to boost it's price on the stock market by renting you out for unpaid hard labor.
