  1. I don't think this is a sign of Trump in mental decline actually. It's more a sign of our country in mental decline. Trump knows what he said was idiotic but it's also the next logical step/escalation in fear-mongering his base. It's like the anime power leveling problem, you can't introduce weaker characters (or narratives) and expect them to compete and keep the show progressing.
