  1.  @Kyle496  The rural hospital closures are also often a private equity problem. They buy up hospitals and then close half and lay off the staff so that they can pocket more money and keep staff working like dogs unable to keep up. They also add the debt acquired from the purchase of the hospital onto the hospitals balance sheet because many are done via leveraged buyouts. They saddle the hospital with more debt taken out to increase executive pay and bonuses and then once the debt becomes too much the sell off what's left, pay themselves one last time and either resell the hospital or file bankruptcy and the whole burden is shifted to the local taxpayers.
