  1. Profit motive drives more corruption and marketing than it does R&D. Katie Porter had a pretty good white board session on exactly this. Besides, they don't need to spend their own money on R&D when they can just use taxpayer money instead on top of just creating a bunch of biosimilars that they can use to file new patents while making as little progress and doing as little R&D as possible. Marketing can convince you to buy the worst product at the most expensive price with the worst efficacy simply because it's been drilled into your head with the bad bits conveniently left out.
