  1. This is exactly how people use real data (or anomalies) to skew their outcome. If you only use 12 people for a study there is a much higher chance that all 12 (or the majority) will be outliers or anomalies compared to when you use acceptable sample sizes. The book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" does a good job explaining how small sample sizes can be used to go against scientific consensus and even show the opposite of the truth.
