@stephensuddick2557 We in the US have enough empty homes to do the same while simultaneously one of the largest homeless populations in the industrialized world.... what's your point. Also, I think Cuba has done quite well considering the attempts to destroy their country by the US and the ridiculous sanctions against them.

Where do you think those profits come from? Max profits at any cost is exactly the road we are going down right now. More and more billionaires that have almost total control over the government while more and more people are thrust into poverty. Your ideas just don't work together, they are mutually exclusive opposing ideas. Socialism isn't Big government, it's big people, as in having a government made up by the people for the people. The government in the US is following the natural path of profits rule all and as we see the ones that make all the money also make all the decisions by lobbying government. Businesses should be run to help people by providing a service that betters their life, not ruin their life by making something necessary for survival just out of their reach for maximizing profits while forcing people to take on maximum debt and fall further and further into crisis and poverty.

@baxterfarmandhomestead7481 "We've never had a true free market" . .. what? A true free market would literally be just that, no rules, free for all. The government is a problem for sure, but only because it is bought and paid for by big business and not working for the people. The "free market" is a billionaires wet dream.
