  1. The war on drugs was started as a war on minorities with a facade of plausible deniability or taking down an evil boogeyman. And can't forget the lobbying from the prison industrial complex. The US has the most people imprisoned of any country in the entire world both per capita and just total. Even the federal (not privately owned) prisons make $35k+ per prisoner per year from the government. And they try to tell me that the poverty line is $16k in my state?!?! Shit, if I can get my house designated as a prison maybe I can actually make a livable wage...
