Good catch. I somehow never even noticed that. I wonder if Orwell named it IngSoc taking inspiration also from Hitlers Socialist party, since they clearly were not socialist either.

Most car crashes happen because people get distracted or tired or drunk etc. A computer doesn't get drunk or distracted. Autopilot is undeniably proven to be safer than human driving and is only going to get better. If my fucking phone can tell me how fast I should be going and where to stop then I'm pretty sure self-driving cars can figure it out too. (Albeit the tech is still young, I'm not saying roll it out full-scale tomorrow.) As to the other commenters points I agree, we should probably design cities better to commute shorter distances, require less cars and have more (and up to date) public transport. But I don't see that becoming reality in our Capitalist Dystopian future unless we actually start passing bills to help people instead of tax cuts for billionaires.

@SebastianLundh1988 Yeah that's why the Golden Era of economic expansion came after FDR and Keynesian economics right? You know, the new deal and the great society etc., the exact opposite of trickle down free market nonsense.

Landlords or no, Monopoly is a perfect representation of our current Capitalist system. Look at the elite today, they almost all started off with "properties" or mass amounts of family wealth or even just elite educations and extremely lucky opportunities like Gates' mother being an IBM executive and able to get him his first deal on top of being like the only kid in the world with unfettered access to computers at a time when they were the size of by bedroom. Sure, landlords are probably worse overall compared to oppressive business owners but they both contribute to the same end goal of owning the whole pie themselves.

A fake rags to riches story is one of the central tenants of American Capitalism. Everyone believes they are a genius but temporarily down on their luck billionaire.

It's not a surprise that monopoly has railroads, utilities, the water treatment plant, etc. Just look at Nestle pumping lakes dry to sell people bottled water (also they are trying to secure full sole ownership rights for water in places in the US rather than just being able to pump it out at will). Look at utilities paying billions in dividends and jacking up rates while people freeze to death in their homes.

All working towards monopolies.

lol yup, I've always wondered how they can support the very thing they claim to be against. "We need Democracy and freedom, except not with elected government leaders, but with corporate leaders, whoever is the richest will do, and no freedom in the workplace, hell, just let the richest decide what your rights should be, they obviously know best, their rich"

So Tim Ferris helped make grifting a working class job instead of just something rich people did..... great.
