  1. Not to mention that after the treaty was signed some continued to commit acts of violence against Maori and settlers. Those people were why the treaty was needed. Those people had to be made an example of. Breaching peace treaties and committing murders isnt something anyone should get away with. The reason for the treaty was to prevent violence. Till this day they havent stopped the violence.

  4. Because the US was training them to fight the British. They were keen till they found out there was nothing here. No guano no resources readily available.

  5. Also it was the crown. The people were still people but some formed militias as the crown failed to protect them from tribal warriors. Those militias were all recorded and it was barely anyone.

  6. If Maori were given sovereignty they would been gone long ago. The people wouldn't have put up with anyone above the law. Not being Maori didnt make you the crown. All that arguing also prevented them from having say by being to violent and abusive to be able to elected. They had to give them seats as no one would vote for them. Even their own people are sick of the bigotted rhetoric.
