@winstonsmith478 Yes the chips they had to made, preprogrammed, for the Apollo space program were some of the most expensive yet at that time advanced and smallest there were. Without that we still would be doing things on paper in big offices and with couriers taking weeks! Once IBM done ALL that work their technology levels had improved so much they could offer that to other businesses too! Without IBM's super computers space would have been almost impossible.

Yup, NASA is expensive but the technology that leaks down to being usable on earth. And the knowledge is worth that money. Sure it started with a political space race against the USSR. But it evolved into humanity working together in huge projects in space for the betterment of science and knowledge. And it never will be cheap, but it we have gotten a lot out of it.
