Funny, in my country having an ID is not only expected it is the law. Also once voting comes round you get your a voting certificate send to your home address. Or otherwise registered address. Then you have to take THAT and your ID to the voting booth, they check it, go through the list if it is one of your local voting points and tick it off [that is for statistics!] and then you can vote. Or you can decide to allow someone else to vote for you. But they also need to bring THEIR ID! Before you ask, no they can't trace your vote to your id. your id unlocks the ability to vote. But is in no way connected to your vote. All these checks are for statistics, how many people showed up to vote? How many LOCAL people showed up to vote! Stuff like that. So why in America is that system so broken?
