Winter is still coming, a lot of people mistake that for "The Long Night is coming". "Winter is Coming" are just the words of House Stark, and in Westeros winter comes like every 10-12 years or so. But if you recall at the beginning, not even Ned Stark believed the White Walkers were back. "They've been gone for thousands of years" he confidently tells Bran. But no, it's still coming, it just doesn't involve an army of ice zombies anymore. Anyway, I was disappointed with the end of Episode 3 as well. I would've given it a pass if Jon Snow at least crossed blades with the Night King once, have Arya stab him still if you really want sure but Jon never crossed blades with the Night King in the entirety of the show ONCE. Not a single time. It just felt cheap and rushed because it was.

@alcortez1261 I guarantee the Starks were saying it no more or less than they always were, it just came with a double entendre this time like "We must remain vigilant, for Winter is Coming". Ned Stark didn't even believe in the White Walkers and he said it like 20 times. So no, maybe some characters started saying it with that double meaning "Winter is Coming" but by and large most of the people who were fighting the dead had never even seen one before. I will concede that "Winter is Coming" by extension could also mean that zombies may be on their way, but that's far from it's primary meaning even in the show. Primarily speaking it just means that every 10-12 years Winter comes, so hope you stocked up on food, etc. Not zombies.

IDC that Arya was the one who killed the Night King, the biggest disappointment to me came from the fact that Jon didn't even cross blades with the Night King. Not once. Not a single time in the duration of the entire show. I was expecting Jon and the Night King to have a mini duel on the ground at the part where Jon is charging across the field at him only to stop dead in his tracks and wait for the Night King to raise some zombies for him. And maybe somehow in the midst of this duel with Jon about to be defeated then Arya jumps at him from a rampart or something on the walls. Something logical, don't make it a "how the?? how did she do that?" situation like we got. It'd have felt more earned if it took two characters to bring him down but no she basically tricked a supernatural entity with a "gotcha" move.

So what happened IMO was everything that most of the bad decisions in this episode were dictated because this is easily the most expensive season of any show ever made and they're trying to cut corners wherever possible to reflect that . For instance, the cavalry charge. Cavalry in battle sequences are already expensive, then you have on top of this that the enemy they're facing is like where a huge chunk of the budget goes anyway. So rather than have a scene that would involve the Dothraki screamers cutting through zombies with ease with their flaming arakhs, they are like "we can't afford them so we are gonna suicide charge them at an enemy that we can't even see yet, and nobody will complain because the name of the episode is "The Long Night"! In fact, I'd argue the only reason they ignited the Arakhs was to give a visual cue of them all dying one by one. The fact it is dark is also meant to hide a lot of probably glaring CGI errors but the main reason they did most of the things they did was because to do the episode correctly probably would've cost them at least three times as much money. And if I was HBO, I'd have given them whatever they needed, then we'd get a proper 10 episode season for last season as well as this one. HBO basically has thrown the legacy of the show into the wind, the most popular show in the world, and I don't get it. They can afford it.

I completely agree with you being mad about them not revealing the Prince who was Promised yet after teasing it here and there the ENTIRE show. With him gone you'd think his purpose is over, but I think Azor Ahai is still in the show and he or she have already done what they had to do as far as defeating the Night King but... the other part of the prophecy is this hero leads his people to a new dawn. We're not there just yet, I guess ostensibly because the world is still in shambles. Either that or whoever it is may have died in the battle already. I am still on the fence thinking Jorah may have been Azor Ahai, but most likely it's Jon. I doubt it's Arya even though she killed TNK. If they're still going to reveal Azor Ahai I think most likely it'll be next episode or the one after. I also think a certain chracter's death is what will trigger it. Either that or they have no intention of wrapping that plot point up whatsoever. We shall see.

The cavalry charge was done because HBO didn't wanna spend money on cavalry for the battle. It already took 55 days to film it, to have to choreograph and film horses on top of the CGI enemies would've been a nightmare. And expensive. But yeah a lot of the bad decisions in this came down to simple economics/money.
