This problem fuels itself almost in a way because in the back of every single one of these shooters minds, the appeal to a lot of them is that whether they end up popping themselves at the end of the spree or not they know they will be etched into the annals of history. Their notoriety will be something future shooters look up towards, and they know at the very least they will have a Wikipedia page dedicated to them. Their names will become infamous. The names of the victims will be remembered only by the people that knew them leading up to it, beyond that they're just relegated to a number on a scorecard on the KILLER'S Wikipedia page. This is why we've seen a snowball effect with regards to these killers and it really began in earnest around Columbine even though statistically speaking Columbine was the 38th school shooting in American history (not a lot of people know that). It really made this phenomenon enter the Zeitgeist and since then it's been happening more and more and more frequently. Nobody remembers the victims. Everyone remembers the killers. We really need to take a long hard look at ourselves to figure out why this is the case.
