@maximusdecimusmeridius5500 In theory but sometimes they do make mistakes. But I do think they try to keep civilians out of it as much as possible unless you count like traditional neighborhood extortion of neighborhood businesses as "leaving them out" or not. But the violence was usually reserved for other people who basically made that commitment and took that oath with full knowledge that they were in the game for good. That they can never leave except in a coffin. A lifetime commitment. And if you were in the game you knew the rules, and that the consequences of breaking them would be severe.

Nicodermo Scarfo will probably be mentioned in this a few times. You think about ruthless, paranoid, violent individuals in LCN and some might argue he was one of the worst. He was so bad in Philadelphia he basically got kicked out of the city, relocating to Atlantic City NJ (about an 1 hour & 15-20 minutes drive from Philly) and basically setting everything up there and playing a major role in helping to facilitate the casino business there which was relatively new at the time, and it was so corrupt they actually had all of their OWN businesses taking these huge contracts to do everything revolving around building these casinos. Just like the Sopranos, they have their guys on the payroll sitting out there doing nothing while the real workers kind of have to work AROUND them. That was all Scarfo.
