Whether you agree with it or not the fact is the war on drugs is a failure, it's a waste of money and it ruins lives on a far more substantial level than any like risk of overdose or death from the substances ever could. The subculture arguably is what makes hard drugs dangerous, the fact they have to do it in the shadows to begin with.

  3. He's not wrong, if heroin was regulated like any other pharmaceutical then there would be less deaths from it. It also wouldn't cost as much as it currently does. Basically every measurable benefit would be observed from the outright legalization of it. And if for nothing else it takes the power out of the hands of criminals who are currently making a fortune and spend untold amounts of money lobbying to keep it illegal because the party would be over if it ever did get legalized. They'd have to go back to actually like committing violent crimes again, as is the illegality is only CAUSING violent crime due to competition over the marketplace.
