We're already reflecting the downfall of Rome in a major way, especially the way that entertainment has more and more become a staple of our lives. We love movies and TV shows, we idolize stars, and The Learning Channel has shows like "Honey Boo Boo" on it because it gets better ratings. Not to mention our obsession with sports. In Roman times this was called the "bread and circuses" era. They kept the people placid with entertainment, basically, while they became more and more corrupt and did their evil deeds in broad daylight while the people were too distracted to notice.

@hmmnope9231 It's only getting more and more relevant with time, though. Besides, the US is currently on a supercharged track of the rise then downfall of a civilization like Rome. It's happening more or less the same timing spacing wise, but Rome was a major civilization for hundreds if not thousands of years -- America isn't even 250 years old yet. It's also different from the standpoint that it's less of a "one country economy" and more of a globalized one in the modern world. But yeah as far as the collapse of values and morality in society on top of our obsession with entertainment over important issues (while our elected officials operate corruptly basically in the open because nobody cares or notices that they're doing corrupt things to begin with). It's not a 1 for 1 exact recreation of the downfall of Rome but it's more similar than it is not.

Idolizing stars, being obsessed with sports and sports stars, loving movies and TV shows and things that on a level of actually mattering do not matter at all, IS a sign of the downfall of America like Rome. So if your statement is that it isn't true that doing all of the above isn't a sign of America's downfall, then I agree with you, because if you take the negatives out of both of those statements then you are saying that it IS a sign of America's downfall. Particularly on a cultural level. It IS true that these things are indicative of the downfall of America like Rome (your statement without the dual negatives in "Not True" and "Isn't"). We don't even make our own medicine anymore. China is responsible for making something like 90% of the world's medicine, and here we are on the doorstep of going to war with them if we don't just let them have their way, invade Taiwan and threaten Japan and Australia with nuclear weapons the way they are. Oh well, as long as we're "entertained" to death, right?
