  2. Just because you can see someone on YouTube with their independently recorded song and their independently recorded companion music video doesn't make them mainstream. Musicians and artists have more power at their fingertips and more choices career wise at their disposal now than ever before. The mainstream DOES still exist it's just operated and controlled by the powers that be. Well, more like the powers that USED to be, as recently as the mid 00's when radio stations and music channels dictated what a large portion of the country listened to. In other words, they controlled the mainstream. But ever since YouTube came along, it's basically revolutionized independent music for the better and put the power back in the hands of the artists where it should have been all along. But just because they may enjoy some modest YouTube popularity with a few million views and maybe a few hundred thousand subscribes, I mean, it's great they have that platform and all but that doesn't make them part of the mainstream. Not by definition. It's just made it more possible if not more likely for someone like yourself to be able to find it because some mega corporation didn't have to vet and approve it first.

Real talk though, anyone who actually still a) listens to emo and b) looks that way is ... like, in 2004 when people still had MySpace accounts that was a very real trend in both music and lifestyle choices but anyone who is STILL doing that is either gay or bi. There's just no way to even justify it anymore, even though most kids call it "Scene" these days from what I understand, but it makes me wonder, what fucking scene is that? Again, it's not 2004 anymore, nobody is even close to being into that shit like they did back in the very, very short heyday it did have.
